Question by Curious: What programming languages are required to develop a website that is based on the carousel effect?
Essentially, I would like to have a site built for me but need to figure out the specifications of the project (what programming languages are required and whether it is possible).
The site would have a square division in the middle. I would want next and previous arrows outside of this division. Clicking the arrows will slide the division left or right, out of view, and smoothly bring in a new division (like a carousel effect). However, it’s not an image carousel. I would like each division to have its own content. For example, the first square would be a blog, the next, a catalog, and the next a thumbnail gallery. Is this possible? AJAX? PHP? Javascript? Are there any particular libraries I should have in mind? Jquery?
Thank you for the suggestions thus far. I do know that something like this can be done outside of flash and would prefer to keep it as such.
Also, is it possible to have a wordpress installation in one of these, slideable divisions?

What do you think? Answer below!
Sounds like you would have to be fluent in both HTML and Javascript to create that kind of site. Do a search for Javascript tutorials and HTML tutorials, there are tons of them for free.
Carousel isn’t a very good term. He just wants a site where the main content is dynamic and has a nice slide in/out effect for each page.
It’s a Flash site or dynamic site. You need Flash experience, JS, and/or PHP. CSS is a given for the design of the site.
I doubt dynamic will allow the nice pretty sliding effects. that would be Flash reliant completely, check out http://flashden.net?ref=DieuxSoldat_04
If you don’t want to go through all the trouble of learning these skills and making the site, go buy a template or use an iFrame. Essentially does the same thing but without a nice slide out/in effect. Actually maybe iFrame won’t work. Anyhow, good luck.
Edit:
Yes wordpress can be put in as a dynamic content, iFrame or Flash. I really recommend flash for this or you are going to have a heck of a time maintaining your site unless you get the coder to stay on there for you 24/7.
Quick Dynamic explanation. Dynamic means you have a page with code tht called pages. You make an index.html with the arrows as permanent content but make the center call for a new file like home.php, home.tpl or home.html. then what you do is edit the home.html page to have links to the other pages. Your index is displayed but the center content never changes. Works same as an iFrame but dynamic content can make something like http://EndlessSonata.com/catalogue That is my dynamic content site. An iFrame example site is this one, http://team24.clanservers.com It is my friend’s site and as you can see iFrame is a little more outdated and doesn’t work as well as dynamic for multiple dynamic areas on a page. I still recommend flash for your objective.
